Anime and Emo: where are they now?
Do Anime Fans still remember the year 2000's, where the two cultures of Anime and Emo rose to fame? For those who reached the 2000's, we know that those who reached that year were lucky, because Anime and Emo were intertwined in the fandom of young Filipino back then, due to being close to Anime and being rockers of a few.
So Anime Fans in the Philippines before were only close to the music of Emo back then. Before J-Pop, they became part of the same culture of young Filipino, because they combined the fandom of Anime and rock (punk). Stronger Anime Fandom in the Philippines before, the reason for the spread of Anime and Emo among many youth.
But do we really know where the friendship culture between Anime and Emo is today? Don't we know the state of Anime and Emo in the Philippines today?
Since the arrival of the pre-2010's, the year 2009, Anime and Emo in the Philippines gradually weakened, due to the phenomenon of Boys Over Flowers or the Korean F4 (Flower Four), which led to the recovery of the kpop fandom from their defeat before. Ever since Filipinos began to pay attention to kpop, many did not notice Anime and Emo then, and the other thing is, before Emo was separated from Anime, J-Pop took the place of combining the two cultures of Japan in the Philippines, in case, Anime Fans in the Philippines still have not succeeded, against the rise of kpop culture in the Philippines.
So Emo and Anime have separated, because Anime Fandom in the Philippines has also gone to J-Pop, to merge into one Anime Culture, or now we call Anime and J-Pop Culture of Filipinos. However, Emo can still be noticed in forms of rock music, but the former companion of Anime back then has changed. What happened to them in the 2010's?
So what happened to Emo in the Philippines in the 2010s was that it was replaced by what is called 'swagger', where those who were not yet Anime Fans in the Philippines and the elitist 90's kids got on board with that kind of pop culture. So Emo just disappeared without the young Filipinos realizing it. But what was the reason for that? Fans of old anime of GMA7 and Filipino swaggists came together.
It seems that Emo has been replaced by swagger and kpop stans, because the two together with watching old shows like old anime on GMA7, it seems that the extent of Filipinos' misperception of Anime and J-Pop has become serious. Hasn't it become a country, which seems to be false and old-fashioned supported by non-anime fans in the Philippines?
Due to the disappearance of Emo, Filipino Anime/J-Pop Fans were no longer able to experience the sub-culture that was part of Anime before, which led to the decline of Anime and J-Pop in the Philippines in the 2010s.
However, due to the strengthening of the koreaboo culture and koreaboo fandom of pnoy koreaboos in the Philippines, they are gradually blocking the popularity of New Anime and J-Pop, due to their pride in the Korean culture of pnoy koreaboos, especially among the Filipino women who are involved in kpop fans.
Because Emo among Filipino women, they were fans back then, they didn't establish a stan at that time. It's likely that Filipino women weren't against Anime back then either.
However, because of that BOF phenomenon, Emo really did not survive the kpop/kdrama phenomenon that Filipino kpop fans, who are now pnoy koreaboos.
The 2010s were not very lucky for Filipino Anime/J-Pop Fans, especially Emo. Due to the proliferation of pnoy koreaboos and normies or normienoys, especially the immature ones and those who live in teleseryes and children's shows, more and more Filipinos became anti-anime and anti-jpop, and the increase of young swaggists, which also signaled the death of Anime and J-Pop in the Philippines and the disappearance of Emo in the Philippines. But Filipino Anime and J-Pop and Emo are no longer very noticeable, because Filipinos have become pnoys.
And not only that, the reason for the loss of Emo and Anime is because of the pnoy kpop fans, teen pregnant Filipinos have added to this, because of the 'buntiserye' at noon, Filipinos who are called 'social mediaboos' have added to this, where Filipinos and pnoy netizens are only interested in themselves and only interested in non-anime and non-jpop content online. Maybe Emo is no longer noticed by those netizens, because they only pay attention to kpop and the shows of Hollywood and kdramas and Philippine teleseryes.
Anime, J-Pop, and Emo Culture have not done anything in the Philippines, but they disappeared from the public and they just stayed in a place where the Filipinos and the pnoys would not notice them.
And what's even worse is another phenomenon of social mediaboos, the AlDub phenomenon in 2015, where the social media influence phenomenon Dubsmash was a major obstacle, so Anime and J-Pop could not become popular in the Philippines, because of millions of Filipinos who are social mediaboos on Facebook, Twitter, and other social platforms.
That's why Anime and Emo didn't survive the 2010's pnoy pride. But in the midst of the recovery of Anime/J-Pop Fandom, even though they no longer have Emo fans, perhaps Anime and J-Pop are being criticized by pnoy groups, especially pnoy koreaboos who are leading the attack against Anime/J-Pop Events, using the increasing number of people.
In the few years that Emo was absent from Anime/J-Pop Fans, perhaps they survived the surge of pnoys who are trying to drive Anime and J-Pop out of the Philippines.
When the pandemic came in the 2020's, almost Anime and J-Pop, even without their partner Emo experienced a slowdown, due to the COVID 19 Pandemic. Anime and J-Pop returned to normal, after two years of pandemic. But even Emo didn't make its presence felt in the year 2020's, maybe it has joined the group of rockers and metal bands, the successor of Emo in the 2020's.
Even the Anime and J-Pop Fandom in the Philippines today, they still remember the Emo who were part of Anime back then. Even the Anime and J-Pop in the Philippines today are having a hard time promoting New Anime and J-Pop to the public, because there are so many pnoys in the Philippines whose minds are closed and they are very much against and opposed to Anime and J-Pop.
Filipino Anime/J-Pop Fans are experiencing severe persecution today, due to the loss of their ally, it seems that Filipino Anime/J-Pop Fans are listening to different music besides J-Pop in place of their ally Emo. But until now, Emo and Anime will still remain in the memories of many Filipino Anime Fans today.
So, while Anime and Emo are indeed a friendly culture that Filipino Anime/J-Pop Fans will still remember, so that their enthusiasm for Anime can still live on in today's era.
Filipino Anime/J-Pop Fans should not give up in the fight against the pnoys' popularity, because we know that they will never truly succeed, no matter what.
Anime and Emo are best friends forever. Now rockers and metal have taken over, bringing Anime/J-Pop Fandom and Otaku-Akiba/Japan Pop Culture to life in the Philippines.
